Make a SOUL BOX in remembrance of a victim of gun violence. 10:30 am to 12:30 pm September 1 (Friday) Troke Library – 502 W Ben Holt We’ll share stories of these victims — whether killed, injured physically or emotionally, lost a loved one, or traumatized by the culture of fear created by so much recent gun violence. Bring your stories. All materials will be provided. Soul Boxes will be displayed at local events to remind the community of the scope of damage done by gun violence.
This is the last week of JLI’s spring session where we’ve had a lot of fun (and learned a lot) with Picture-in-Picture, Secret Lives of Cats, North American Wildlife, Magic Horses and Backgrounds classes. This is also the last month of JLI’s grant for Zoom classes. SO, don’t forget! The deadline for our final Art Show is Sunday, June 27. Videos of older classes will still be available on line, so in the future you can catch up on any lessons that you’re interested in. And JLI will continue to provide connections to art opportunities through JLIacademy.org and Facebook. We want you to keep on drawing. Thank you to all who’ve joined us at JLI over the last 15 years. The sun is out and Stockton has reached the “red” tier. Vaccinated yet? If you’re over 16, you can be! AT LAST you can enjoy being and about again — with a mask, please. The Stockton Art League is inviting you to include an ART ADVENTURE on the Miracle Mile in your back-to-the-real-world plans. Pick up your Passport at the Goodwin Gallery (Thurs-Fri 12-4, Sat 12-2). Find the Artworks posted along the Mile and critique them with your comments on the “tickets” included with your Passport. You can get your Passport stamped at the businesses hosting the artworks, or when you turn in your tickets (May 1, 10-2 at the Goodwin Gallery). In addition to a fun afternoon stroll on the Mile, you’ll get a reward for appreciating the artworks if you return your Passport to the Goodwin Gallery on May 1 between 10 and 2. Many thanks to the Art League volunteers who’ve done so much work put together this fun activity for the community.
Jagged Lines D&D will round out it’s first (but not last) series of “epic” adventures next Friday. We’ve learned a lot in 8 sessions. From character design to color theory each player has created 2 characters, like Ollie, a Tabaxie, and Ling, a Teifling. We’ve filled out character sheets, assigning all sorts of values and then using those combined with rolling dice – up to 20 sides (yikes, math!). All that and fun role plays too. We started small, rescuing a dog. Then we had some combat lessons with weapons and spells at a fight school. We delivered a prince safely to his wedding, outing his evil chancellor. And now at the ruins of Hwa Lome we’re searching for the mastermind whose been killing off the magical beasts that live around the ruins. What’s not to like? Want to become a player? You can!
